Exhibit looking at the introduction of Thorazine and other pharmaceuticals into the treatment practices at the Oregon State Hospital.  The exhibit was on display from 2019-2020.

When the drug Thorazine became available in the 1950s in the United States, it was considered a game changer.  State Hospitals across the country, including the Oregon State Hospital, began administering drug trials and results were heralded as miraculous in some cases.  Despite the excitement, the use of this and other neuroleptics and anti psychotic drugs carried with them risk and difficult side effects.
