Museum Beginnings
In April 2009, the Oregon State Department of Human Services authorized a steering committee comprised of concerned citizens to explore the possibility of creating a museum at the Oregon State Hospital. That same year volunteers from the committee established a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation to develop a new museum. Volunteers worked to catalog the hospital’s collection of old materials, gather stories, raise funds and design and create the museum. The vision became a reality as the museum opened to the public on October 6, 2012.
