Barney the Bearcat and Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Circa 1985

Willamette University’s Barney the Bearcat visits Fairview, October 1985.

I must share with you two of my favorite pictures. The first, on the left side of the page, is Willamette University’s original mascot, Barney the Bearcat. Barney was Willamette’s first mascot, dating back to the late 1940s/ early 1950s. In the late 1990s/ early 2000s, Barney retired, and Blitz the Bearcat took his place until current day.  In this picture, Barney was attending a Halloween party held at Fairview in 1985.

The picture of the right is of Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse, visiting Fairview in 1985 during the annual Summerfest hosted at Fairview.
